We began recording these songs on my 30th birthday in 2003. We did these over about 3 recording sessions in James' house in Red Hill which was right next door to Al Grassby's home. Al Grassby was the Minister for Immigration in the Whitlam government, he was the self styled "father of multiculturalism". I often wondered what Al thought of the loud noises, hoots, laughter and rock and roll that he heard from next door. We probably drove him mad. We were a new band back then, full of life and full of ambition. Ten years down the line we're still going, still full of life and ambition. There have line up changes but the same feeling is there and band members don't seem to leave for long. They keep returning. I have a fondness for these early recordings. They chart the formation of a band and they map out my early development as an artist. I've just turned 40, the Spirits have just had their 10th anniversary. I thought that it is about time I make these songs more readily available - Konrad Lenz 16 - July - 13
